Q: What can chiropractic do for me?
A: Chiropractic is the science, art, and philosophy of things natural. It is a system of adjusting the segments of the spinal column by hand for the correction of the cause of dis-ease.
Q: What will my chiropractor do on my first visit?
A: He or she will begin by taking a case history and discussing your case with you. Next, x-rays will be taken of the affected area in your spine along with an exam which would include reflexes, range of motion and orthopedic tests. Your doctor will then explain your x-rays to you and give you your first chiropractic adjustment. Adjusting the spine removes the nerve interference and turns the body's healing powers on!
Q: What is the chiropractor looking for in my exam?
A: Your chiropractor is looking for a vertebral subluxation. That is, a vertebra that has lost its proper alignment with the vertebra above or below and is causing nerve interference. This causes a breakdown in the communication between the brain and the organ, muscle, or tissue those nerves supply.
Q: How do the vertebrae become subluxated?
A: Subluxations are caused by physical, chemical, or emotional STRESS on the body. Physical stresses are things like: slips and falls, auto accidents, lifting injuries, poor posture, poor sleeping habits, childhood falls and even the birth process. Chemical stresses are anything you put into your body that causes a chemical imbalance. This can be anything from cigarettes and alcohol to medication, even too much sugar or caffeine. And emotional stress causes the muscles in your body to tighten up and can cause misalignment of vertebrae resulting in subluxation.
Q: How long will I need to be under my chiropractor's care?
A: As long as you want to maintain optimal health and vitality. The length of your recovery is determined by how many subluxations you have, how bad they are, the health of your spine and your lifestyle. Most people find that after their subluxations are corrected, they are able to maintain a healthy spine with monthly adjustments.
Q: What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A: This type of adjustments involves using subtle force to unhinge or “unlock” A join or bone that is not moving or working properly. This is done to eliminate any interference the bone is having with your nervous system.
